Broncos Football Preview
posted by Aaron Williams | September 8, 2016 | In SportsPreseason rankings made at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Media Day back in July put the Fayetteville State Broncos in a 2nd place southern division and 5th place overall prediction for the 2016 football season.
Coming from a 4-6 overall (4-3 conference play) season, the Broncos seek to recapture their championship sights under guidance of former-Winston Salem State University defensive coordinator Richard Hayes as Head Coach. Hayes, a 1999 graduate of North Carolina A&T State, joins the team bringing over 15 years of coaching experience to his new leadership position and becomes the University’s 16th head football coach.
Even with coaching staff changes, Fayetteville State will return 22 of their starters and 36 letter-winners. The Broncos also received two All-CIAA team honors for defense players Travis Scales and Eric Henderson II. Henderson was a preseason select last year and amassed 54 tackles (with 37 solo) while Scales lead the team and with 62 tackles (38 solo). The Broncos will begin their season with non-conference play versus northern division rival the Hawks of Chowan University. Kickoff is set for Saturday, September 3rd at 6:00pm.
