Downtown Fayetteville Fills With Spirituality in 3rd Annual Prayer Walk
posted by Jelia Hepner | April 12, 2016 | In NewsThe third annual AsOne Prayer Walk was held in Fayetteville the morning of April 9, with five different prayer themes chosen for the walk.
For the past three years, some residents of Fayetteville and surrounding areas, have partnered together to walk peacefully and silently through the downtown area as a part of the AsOne Fellowship.
The idea behind the walk is that like-minded people can come together in spite of any kind of difference they may have and fellowship together through this prayer walk.
Brittney Jenkins, one of the yearly participants, stated that this is one of the most positive events she has attended. “I love to go to different events here in Fayetteville, but I feel like this is the most positive event that I have been to this year and I am so happy to be a part of this.”
This year, walkers began at Festival Park and stopped at five prayer stations along the route, the first being the Veterans Park and Airborne Museum where they prayed for active and non-active military and their families.
Participants then walked on to Fayetteville City Hall where they prayed for regional civic and leadership and law enforcement, as well as the United States’s leaders.
Walkers then moved onto the third stop, which was at the Cumberland County Detention Center where they prayed for those incarcerated and their families. Other stops included the Market House and the Fayetteville Public Library.
The walk finished at Festival Park with food and music followed by fellowship.
After completing the course, participant Jennifer Lewis stated, “I am from Virginia visiting my sister and I heard about this walk. It was an amazing experience I can’t put into words. Every time I hear about Fayetteville is it always something bad going on. So, to see this and experience it makes me like Fayetteville more and I realize that there can good shining through this city.”
