FSU Honors Veterans
posted by Dajah Johnson | December 18, 2016 | In Arts and Culture, NewsAs the month of November is dwindling down, we all can look back on some eventful moments and important days. From daylight saving time to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration victory. And, as many of us know, every year on November 11th is the day that we celebrate our veterans.
Veteran’s day is celebrated all over the nation, including here at Fayetteville State University. On November 9th, 2016 the Student Veterans Center along with the Student Veterans Association (SVA), put together an eventful celebration.
One of Fayetteville’s car clubs came to support and show off their hot rides to celebration participants. Everyone checked out these cars and rated their favorite one out of the bunch.
Another activity that took place on this day was an old school dance competition. Groups of three got together picked a dance out of bowl and had to show off their stuff to the crowd.
Throughout the event, raffle tickets were being called out for small prizes. The biggest prize of them all was a brand new Apple Watch.
In the midst of all the fun, celebrants also let go of red, white, and blue balloons into the air, in honor of those who have served.
For the celebration, the SVA partnered up with Fayetteville’s Farmers Market as well as different vendors to make the event a success.
The celebration also included food and light refreshments.
Overall I am proud to say that I volunteered for this special celebration of veterans (my mother being one of them). It is good to let veterans and their families know that they are important and cared about all around America, including at our illustrious, Fayetteville State University.
