I’m Just Trying to Make it to Class
posted by Faith Ford | February 24, 2017 | In OpinionI try my best to make it to class on time. Normally, I take thirty minutes to get myself to class from wherever I am and try to be ten minutes early when I get to my class.
I mean, let’s be honest, it’s not the best idea to skip a class that you are paying for so attending would be the only choice that makes sense. But, of course, there may come some times where an obligation would prevent you from being early or on time. The line at Ecogrounds might be long, and you need your daily cup of coffee, so there was no getting passed that. Or you could have had something to eat that upsets your stomach, and you have to make an emergency bathroom run. There’s really no getting past that situation.
So what I’m saying is being five or ten minutes late isn’t going to kill anybody. But, for me, being late was the wrong move.
One day, I went to go help a friend, and take her to her academic advisor who just happens to be my academic advisor. She didn’t know where the office was located, and I had about ten minutes until class began, so just knew I would be fine. In the end, a few minutes turn into exactly twelve minutes, and now I’m rushing to class tired and anxious.
I try my best to not make it seem so obvious, so I gently slide in between the tables. Forgetting I have a forty-pound sack on my back that I call a book bag, I end up knocking over a classmate’s books and supplies. Already embarrassed as it is, my professor decides to stop class once I sit down and announce to the class that being late is just so disruptive and rude.
Let’s just say after that experience, I make sure to keep my good deeds on hold until after class.
Lesson learned from this: make yourself and the things you have to do a priority. And make sure not to knock over anyone’s things with your book bag sack.
