Let the Force Awaken
posted by Kyle Franck | November 25, 2015 | In Arts and CultureWar, racial tension, romance and intergalactic domination, Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens has something for everyone to gather from and enjoy.
As the release date of December 18th approaches, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has already surpassed most box office hits of 2015 with just its preorder ticket sales alone, according to Screen Junkie’s website, making it a “force” to be reckoned with upon initial weekend opening sales.
The interesting aspect to Star Wars which makes this film a must see for anyone is the variety of action and adventure it brings to the big screen. The Episode VII plot centers around the First Order, a federation, fighting against the Resistance, a rebellion of freedom fighters.
Drawing from over 35 years of development, Star Wars is a world of lore, adventure and, not to mention, some of the best computer graphics in film making, spurring many students of computer graphics and film production to analyze the making of the new film.
For fans of the Star Wars series, there will be many great additions to the film, including new alien species, weaponry, ships. And best of all, the actors from the original series. Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and Kenny Baker (r2-D2), will be reprising their roles in the new film.
Another aspect to the Star Wars film is its recent media attention to racial tension stemming from the casting of United Kingdom actor John Boyega. Boyega, an actor of African descent, responded on Instagram, according to Buzzfeed: “To whom it may concern… Get used to it. :)”
The issue has since gone away as Star Wars: The Force Awakens has only a few weeks before hitting theaters all over the world. Attention over the film has shifted back to the production value of the film under Walt Disney Pictures, which purchased rights to the film franchise in early 2012.
Disney has already announced its audition information for the next Star Wars projects, which can be found on their website, sparking many aspiring actors and models to apply. This is a normal move for Disney Pictures, which has hosted open casting for many years, on many films and television series.
Announced at Disney’s D23 EXPO 2015, Disney World theme parks will also be offering an entire new portion to their Orlando, FL. Park, aptly named “Star Wars World.” It will feature a full replica of the infamous smuggling ship the Millennium Falcon and landscapes from different planets found in the Star Wars universe. According to Disney’s website, the park will be available in 2016.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be the biggest film of 2015 according to over 40 sources, including Forbes, IGN, and MetaCritic, which is due mainly to the cast of actors and the amount of money Disney will sink into this film and the next to come in the series.
The main attraction here is, of course, the story. The age old fight between good and evil. No audience can go wrong with a space born adventure in a galaxy far, far away.
With a cast of famous actors, over $1 billion in movie production cost, and J.J. Abrams directing under Disney, Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens is a must see and an instant classic. Whether you enjoy science fiction film or not, The Force Awakens will leave you wanting more.
Tickets are on sale now through Ticket Master and Stub Hub online. Be a part something great, and may the Force be with you.
