The Eagles Make History at the Super Bowl
Nobody anticipated it. The Eagles have participated in the Super Bowl three times,
in 1981 and 2005, and did not win. The last time they won something important was in 1960 against the Green Bay Packers. On the other hand, the Patriots have participated in the Super Bowl five times and have won each time. So, naturally, a lot of people thought the Patriots were going to win one way or another, if it meant they would guarantee victory from the start of the game or they would reach victory after half time, they would find a way to win. But, it was not long before the spectators realized that the Eagles were there for a reason, and that was to win.
For most of the game, the attention was focused on Tom Brady, the star player of the New England Patriots, and people expected nothing more than pure greatness from him. Nobody thought that Brady and the rest of the team would allow the Eagles to win the championship. However, that is exactly what happened. From the start, the Eagles were winning and, although people expected a reappearance of the Patriots after halftime, it never happened. Things got hot when the Eagles and Patriots tied with 33 points but it was not long before the Eagles overtook them.
Not even ten minutes after the game had officially started, Jake Elliot scored a 25-yard field goal, earning three points for his team. Shortly after, the Eagles scored a first down, Corey Clemente made a 16-yard gain in a catch and run. However a penalty and two incomplete passes forced Philadelphia to settle for the field goal; and, from then on, the Eagles continued to make their best moves. Before the halftime show, the Eagles had a total of 22 points, 9 from the first quarter and 12 from the second. The Patriots were behind with 12 points, 3 from the first quarter and 9 from the second, with a little more than 5 touchdowns.
In the end, the Eagles won 41-33 with a total of nine touchdowns throughout the game. After the victory was made official, a news anchor from Sporting News tweeted “What a game! The Eagles defeat the patriots in the #Superbowl “ at 10:19 AM. NFL also tweeted “What a game! The @Eagles just won the @ Superbowl! #SBLII #FlyEaglesFly “, in response to the team’s important victory. About 20 minutes after the victory, Nick Foles, the Eagles quarterback, was called “the most valuable player in the SuperBowl”. In celebration of the Eagles’ victory, Philadelphia residents took to the streets with such excitement that CBS reported that on Monday morning two poles were knocked down, seriously injuring one person. Not only will the winning team be celebrating this victory for a long time, but people from all over the world will, too.
