New Lines at the Spring 2023 Probate
posted by Nicholas Robinson-Carter | April 24, 2023 | In NewsOn April 8, the Office of Student Activities & Engagement held the Spring 2023 Probate in the Capel Arena. During this event, eight organizations revealed their new members: Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. The crowd was full of students, alumni, and family members as they waited in excitement for the new members to finally cross over.
Tau Beta Sigma Honorary Band Sorority was the first organization to present its members. Four young ladies came out in their line order, recited information about the organization, danced in unison to the organization’s songs and marched to the crowd’s astonishment, all before revealing their identities and new aliases to everyone.
Let’s give a warm welcome to the spring ’23 initiates: junior visual arts and design major Soledad Muhammad, junior political science major Kari Simmons, senior health and physical education major Pamela Davis, junior music education major NaCosha Hammock, and junior nursing major and MBX’s piccolo section leader is Delmarea King.
Iota Phi Theta fraternity was the next organization to present its new members. The three men appeared dressed in a jumpsuit with green and red paint representing their numbers on the front and solid dark masks.
Let’s welcome spring ’23 initiates: sophomore Kevin Chambers, sophomore Terrell Bledsoe, and sophomore Ja’Hiem McGee.
Dressed in blue hats with dark-tinted sunglasses and blue masks, blue blouses with blue pants, and white heels, the first female organization to present its members was Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Six ladies came out in their line order, recited information about the organization, danced in unison to the organization’s songs and sang renditions to popular songs prior to revealing their identities and new aliases to the crowd.
Welcoming into the chapter, your spring ’23 initiates are junior Zaria Berry, senior biology major Jamiya Burke, junior Jakyiah Jefferson, senior Adara Gamble, health and physical education major Laniyah Bethea, and junior race and public health major Iyana Beachem.

The next organization to present its new members was Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. Before revealing their identities and new aliases, there were several call and responses chants.
Welcoming spring ’23 initiates: junior Charles Singleton II, junior Dayshawn Burford, junior Jerome Lincoln, junior music education major Manny Dawson, junior business administration Michael Woodley-Chapman, and finally senior Isaiah McCain-Mercado.
The organization that is the largest was Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. These group of ladies had 32 that joined. Before revealing their identities and new aliases, they recited information about the organization, danced in unison to the organization’s songs and sang renditions of popular songs.

Welcoming spring ’23 initiates: Logan Bryant, Maya Martin, Karynton Clark, Ashley Daniels, Destiny Capers, Shonnail Motley, Imani Elliott, Lex Barber, Adrianne Tellez, Nadia Bennett, Aaliyah Williams, Johnae Walker, Kieara Porter, Jaida Bynum, Jashanta Brown, Tatyanna Montgomery, Attaynek Jones, Destiny Butts, Angel Johnson, Destynie Thomas, Nadia Parker, Alana Leonard, Iman Muhammad, Jada Phillips, Nadiyah Randolph, Shamya Brawner, Sydney Poindexter, Rasheka Simmons, Alaysia Jones, Amani Valines, Anjolaoluwa Thomas, and Bailey Robinson
The next organization that came to gym appeared to be dressed mummified, but with green camouflage pants. The organization to present its new members was Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. This group only had two men to join. Welcoming into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, your spring ’23 initiates are Jamari Slade and Justin Louis.
Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity was the second to last organization to present the new members. The eight men appeared in the gym wearing yellow masks, burgundy dress shirt, fitted white jacket and pants, and shiny burgundy dress shoes. Prior to revealing their identities and new aliases to the crowd, they recited information about the history of their organization, recited various chants and dances. Unlike the rest of the organizations, each of the men were revealed with doing a shimmy like with their shoulders as they were on the ground to the crowd’s amazement. Welcoming into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, your spring ’23 initiates are Scott Walker, Jaylon Cantey, Zion Fleming, Alex Newsome, Jalen Smith, Caleb Mercer, Xavier Smith, and Joel Enyinnaya.
The final organization of the night was Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. As the light turned off for the last group, the crowd was all hyped for these men appeared to the gym floor. Ten men came out in their line order, recited information about the organization, reciting chants, mirrored the divine nine sororities, and dance, all before revealing to crowd their identities and new aliases. Let’s welcome the last group of spring ’23 initiates: J.C. Williams, Josh McLaurin, Ramone Thomas, Kirsten Cooper, Benjamin Williams, David Baos, Jaylyn Hargett-Boyce, William Robinson, Cameron Rawles, and Daniel Napper.
Congratulations to all the new members. Be on the lookout for them at any event on campus or in the cafe. These groups of initiates are ready to put in the work.
