Easter Traditions

As we approach this Easter holiday, it takes me back to my childhood. As a child, I remember singing that song with friends and family. We were so excited because we knew what we had to look forward to. We looked forward to a week full of fun activities that lead to Easter Sunday. We got to eat all the flavorful Easter candy and the colorful and bright Easter eggs. Who can forget the Easter Egg Hunts and taking pictures with the Easter Bunny? There was a time to be had. Additionally, we knew that we were going to get new outfits, so that made it so much more fun. A new outfit for church and one for after church. You know you can’t wear your good “church clothes” outside to play. After church we went to an amusement park, which for me back then was Coney Island, located in NYC. We made memories that stayed with you for a lifetime.
Although the Easter holiday is celebrated worldwide by the multitudes for so many different reasons, for Christians there was so much more that we should have thought about, which was the true significance of Easter.
I was taught that, as a Christian, Easter is a time of spiritual renewal and rejoicing because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It symbolizes e ultimate triumph over sin and death, offering hope and redemption to believers. Christ was persecuted, died for our sins and rose on the third day.
While we’re celebrating and having a good time, remember this quote from Christian philosopher Soren Kierkegaard: “Christ has not only spoken to us by his life but has also spoken for us by his death.“” Easter is our “tomorrow insured,” so let’s all give thanks.
Have a happy Easter and happy spring!
