FSU Crowns New Homecoming Royalty
posted by Courtney Davis | October 13, 2017 | In NewsCoronation was a night to remember for many, and a great way to kickstart Fayetteville State University’s homecoming festivities.
This year is FSU’s 150th anniversary, and with all the hard work that has been put forth into the university, what better theme then the Royal Caribbean for a well-deserved rest and relaxation?
This was a night for many of the student activities groups, academic clubs, and Greek letter organizations to put their best forth. With many club and organization representatives dressed in their best semi-elegant attire having a blast.
The representatives of the organizations were announced and each of their accomplishments and achievements were mentioned as they walked with the person escorting them.
The scenery was very colorful, tropical, and had loads of vibrant colors across the room.
For some, coronation was a huge success and pleasant change of location as compared to last years. This year the ceremony was moved to the student center with a much stricter RSVP invitation rule.
But the turnout was phenomenal, the DJ kept the music fun and catchy with the island music theme, the spot lights drawing all attention to the speaker standing before it, and the surprising dance routines that commenced throughout the event.
The biggest surprise was the beginning dance number with Mr. and Mrs. Fayetteville State University and the royal court. The royal court emerged from the back of the room and broke into a salsa like dance number to Rihanna’s popular song “Wild Thoughts.”
There was also a video being displayed about how each of the royal court members felt about this year being FSU’s 150th Anniversary. Each member spoke of feeling proud to be a part of Fayetteville State’s history and continuing academic legacy.
With all the excitement of coronation happening, the candidates running for homecoming king and queen were anxiously waiting for their names to be announced. There were four female candidates running for Fayetteville State University’s Homecoming Queen. And three male candidates running for Fayetteville State University’s Homecoming King.
With the end of coronation drawing closer and closer to an end, all seven of the candidates were announced and each of their accomplishments and achievements were mentioned as they walked with the person escorting them.
The winners for Fayetteville State University’s 2017 Homecoming King and Queen are Marquis Brown, and Courtney Best, both are communication majors and seniors.
