NBA Player Banned For Life

A press release from the NBA claims that an internal investigation has found evidence that Porter bet on his own games and released information to bettors to improve the odds. A popular betting platform DraftKings stated that people who bet the under on Porter, made the most money that day.
Porter, who spent most of his career, after a college career at the University of Missouri, for the Raptors 305 G League team, will be banned for life. Porter recently was temporarily off the team, awaiting the decision regarding his allegation.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stated on the allegations, “it is a cardinal sin.” Silver and the NBA took about a week on the decision before banning Porter. Silver states that the integrity of the sport is always a priority.
Porter on two different occasions, played for a couple of minutes, then left the court due to injury. On those days, those who bet that Porter would do badly in these games, won big money.
According to The Atlantic, Porter told associates of his that he was not feeling well, in which they bet $80,000 and gained $1.1 million. DraftKings has recently confirmed that the bets Porter’s associates made had been frozen.
According to NBA policy, players are allowed to bet on sports, just not the NBA or anything associated with the NBA.
Silver is taking gambling and throwing games very seriously, especially now that many states, including North Carolina have legalized sports gambling.
