SGA Pres. Harris Reacts to Marches on Campus
posted by Victoria Walker | March 12, 2021 | In NewsWith Chancellor-Elect Darrell Allison scheduled to take office on Monday March 15. Students and alumni have begun their protest through marches. One march in particular was student-organized, but it may have had a different purpose all together.
In a one-on-one interview with SGA President Sydney Harris, there was a different perspective given when she expressed how felt and the true intention behind the marches she led.
To start off when asked if the goal was to remove Chancellor-Elect Darrell Allison Hariris stated: “The goal is to revise the rules around his selection.” She said: “We wouldn’t get anywhere if we were to protest Darrell Allison, the man, which is why we were demanding that the policy be reviewed. It’s really just about the policy.”
She, like many of her peers, felt that the process used to make decisions for Fayetteville State University and the UNC system required some changes. The students hope for their voices to be heard by the FSU Board of Trustees and the UNC Board of Governors.
When asked if she could only have one thing come from the march, she requested for “The policy to be reviewed, and in general that’s not just search policy that’s all policies from the system, all search policies, all decision-making policies from the University system.”
As for her feelings on Chancellor-Elect Allison, she stated “Only time will tell.”
