The First 2020 Presidential Debate: Students React
posted by Charles Carter | October 2, 2020 | In NewsAt 9:00 p.m. on September 29, President Donald J. Trump (R) and former Vice President Joe Biden (D) debated for the first time in the 2020 United States presidential election. This debate was highly anticipated and awaited by many citizens. The moderator for the debate was Chris Wallace, a news anchor and journalist for “Fox News Sunday.”
The presidential candidates were faced with topics such as the Supreme Court, COVID-19, the economy, racial violence in the United States, climate change, and voting.
This debate garnered a mixture of reactions. When asking viewers of the debate what they thought about the debate, the responses came in a variety of perspectives.
“Throw the whole debate away!” one viewer jokingly stated.
Another student added to the humor stating: “It’s above me now.”
Another viewer was very optimistic saying “Biden looks good”.
“There was a debate?” someone sarcastically asked after being asked how they felt about the presidential debate. The viewer then went on: “I am still trying to figure out what I watched tonight. My main takeaway: Biden held his own, Trump looks unhinged. Trump needed a win tonight and not only did he not get it, he reinforced the negative image of his candidacy. Biden just needs to have another decent performance in the second debate. The debates will grow in steam from now on.”
