Chancellor’s Performance Series Excites, Dazzles
posted by Nieema Williams | October 8, 2018 | In Arts and CultureThe Fayetteville State University Chancellor’s Performance series has begun for this 2018-2019 academic year. The kick-off in J.W. Seabrook Auditorium on September 28 featured the smooth sounds of Jeff Kashiwa, Jakeim Joyner, and Steve Cole who together call themselves the Sax Pack. The room was filled with melodic tones from classical songs, pop hits and original pieces.
The Sax Pack has released 3 albums between 2008-2015. The Sax Pack, The Sax Pack is Back, and The Power of 3. Their albums have reached the billboard charts at number 13 and 16. Individually, the 3 artists have many smooth jazz radio hits and have sold tens of thousands of albums.
The audience was thoroughly entertained as the band played song after song and kept the atmosphere lively and energetic. The crowd favorite was a rendition of Tevin Campbell’s Can We Talk, which had the audience on their feet and chanting for an encore! Overall the entire performance was a combination of each artist’s specific taste in music that came together at the end.
The second Performance Series event was the Cirque Esprit Acrobatics show on September 27 in the Seabrook Auditorium. Crique Esprit performed an array of acrobatics and aerial work
The group has been described by Billboard magazine as having sparkling moments that defy classification. Watching the performers twist, tumble and flip through the air evoked gasp of wonder from the audience. Accompanied by the band Cordis, a progressive music ensemble, lulled the audience and gave the acrobats another level of depth. Cordis consisted of a drummer, pianist, guitarist, cellist and bass player.
These shows along with all other Seabrook Performance series events are family friendly.
The next event scheduled in the performance Series will be “We Were funky Live!” featuring funk, R&B, and disco of the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s on October 21. For ticket information you can contact Seabrook Auditorium at uncfsu.edu/Seabrook or call at 910-672-1724.
