Fayetteville Veterans Day Parade Makes Triumphant Return
posted by Nicholas Robinson-Carter | November 23, 2022 | In NewsOn November 5, the city of Fayetteville held their annual Veterans Day parade through the streets of downtown.
In the fall of 2020, the traditional celebration of our heroes was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was not until last year that the restrictions were removed making it possible for the parade to have a triumphant return this year.
The parade kicked off at 10 a.m. in downtown Fayetteville. It began on Person Street and ended on Hay Street, right before getting to Segra Stadium. WRAL news reporter, Gilbert Baez, served as the master of ceremony, announcing all the festivities as they made their way through downtown Fayetteville.
The Fayetteville Independent Infantry colorguard was the first to get the event started. Next came the Grand Marshals: the Davis family. Chris Davis is a veteran, pastor, and former city councilman, and was joined by wife Demetria Davis, the current NC Mother of the Year. They were followed by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. The 82nd Airborne marching band performed as well.
The parade had appearances by various organizations, including the Special Forces Association, the Fort Bragg chapter of the National Purple Heart Association, the Sergeant Major Association, and the Army Air Force Exchange Service.
Several high school JROTC groups joined the historical scene followed by the Student 2 Student program for the military connected in Cumberland County, along with local representatives of the Boys Scouts of America, Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy, and the Fort Bragg Credit Union.
Kappa Epsilon Psi sorority and Kappa Lambda Chi fraternity military organizations as well as Delta Sigma Theta were also in attendance for the parade.
As the parade progressed, local radio stations such as Rock 103, Magic 106.9, and 107.7 JAMZ made their appearance along with Beasley Media Group.
2022 Miss Methodist University Emmalee Smith arrived followed by Little Miss All-American, Miss Teen All-American, Miss Elite Fort Bragg, Miss Elite All-American, Miss All-American, Miss Fort Bragg, and Miss Elite Tarheel State.
Other high school bands including Scotland High School and Clinton High School were part of the parade as well. The 71st High School’s Southern Sound of Soul and E.E. Smith High School’s Magnificent Marching Machine put on an out-of-this-world performance that had the crowd cheering.
The Veterans Day parade in Fayetteville was a significant moment to come together as a community to honor current, retired, and deceased heroes that have sacrificed for and served our nation in the military.
