FSU Bowling Team Wins Back-to-Back Title
posted by Nicholas Robinson-Carter | April 2, 2024 | In News, SportsThe Fayetteville State University women’s bowling team has won the CIAA championship for the second time after beating Virgina Union University, 4-1 at AMF Lee-Hi lanes in Salem, Virgina. Eight teams competed in the championship.
Pagie Rockwell finished with the highest average of 197.25. Ericka Reed finished in third with an average of 183.50.
Day one of the championship began with bracket play as the Broncos defeated Virginia State University (885-576), Shaw University (847-614), Johnson C. Smith University (845-711), and Elizabeth City State University (822-656). The Broncos then advanced to the next round of the bracket series.
Day two of the championship started off with the Broncos rolling against the Livingstone College Bears, and the Virginia Union Panthers rolling off against the Bowie State University Bulldogs.
The Broncos defeated Livingstone 4-0 to advance to the final round to face off Virginia Union.
Wrapping up the final match, the Broncos were on the move with no stops to the Panthers. The scores were 255-138 for 4-0 win.
Rockwell was named CIAA Player of the Year. Alongside her were two Broncos: Ericka Reed and Denise Brown received All-CIAA Bowling team. Not only that, but the Broncos earned the highest overall Team GPA Award with a 3.69 average.
The Broncos will compete against Hobart College and William Smith College on April 4 at 9 a.m. in Rochester, New York for the National Collegiate Bowling Championship.
