FSU VS Duke Game
posted by Westley Reaves Jr. | November 8, 2022 | In News, SportsOn November 2, Fayetteville State University’s Men’s Basketball team played Duke in their first preseason game at Duke University’s historic Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. The game went as expected with Duke dominating the game from start to finish, with the final score being Duke 82 to FSU 45.
The Broncos played hard and fair only turning over the ball eleven times throughout the game, which was very good considering the excellent defensive display by Duke. Also, FSU caused 8 turnovers from Duke with the bulk coming in the second half when FSU played a full court press.
The starting guards had the bulk of FSU’s scoring with Cress Worthy leading the team with 16 points, going 2-7 from three, and 6-21 shooting. Also, Marcus Elliott was second in scoring getting 10 points shooting 50% from three 2-4, and 4-9 shooting. Lastly, the big man for FSU Sean Tony Hauser had 8 points and 5 rebounds but struggled going against Duke’s bigger and stronger centers.
Duke scoring came from just about everywhere, with good passing play and low turnovers. Their leading scorer was Jacob Grandison with 17 points shooting, 6-9 and 3-6 from three. Also, Mark Mitchell was second with 15 points, shooting 5-8 and causing fouls that allowed him 5 free throws. Then Duke had two players tie for third scoring with both Ryan Young and Jaylen Blakes having 12 points equally.
For the Broncos, their next few games in the Bowie State Classic will be against East Stroudsburg on November 11 at 5pm on a back-to-back. They will play a second game against Frostburg State at 2pm on November 12.
