HBCU Bobbleheads and Series 2 release
posted by Nicholas Robinson-Carter | September 18, 2023 | In NewsThe National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum brought not one series, but two series’ of bobbleheads from all HBCUs in the south including, Fayetteville State University for start the school year.
On February 17, 2023 the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled 13 HBCUs that would get their own bobblehead in celebration of Black History Month.
The bobbleheads represent each school’s mascot. They stand on a unique base with the school’s nickname on the front, wearing the colors, and featuring the logo as well.
The HBCUs that were featured in the first series include: Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University’s Bruiser the Bulldog, Morgan State University’s Benny the Bear, Florida Agricultural & Mechnical University’s Venom the Rattlesnake, FSU’s Mr. Bronco, Grambling State University’s Eddie the Tiger, Tuskegee University’s Parlay the Golden Tiger, Delaware State University’s Too Fly Hornet, Howard University’s Howard Bison, Alabama State University’s Stinger Hornet, North Carolina Central University’s Eddie the Eagle, Norfolk State University’s Spiro the Spartan, Aggie the Bulldog from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical University, and Wavee Dave from Jackson State University.
According to a statement made by co-founder and CEO of the National Hall of Fame and Museum Phil Sklar: “Really well-known HBCUs never had bobbleheads, and we thought that was pretty crazy. They have big fan bases; they have huge alumni populations and really strong traditions.”
Last month, the museum released 16 new colleges to the line up in conjunction to the start of the 2023-2024 academic year. These mascots include: Albany State Rams, Cheyney University of Pennsylvania Wolverines, Clark Atlanta Panthers, Elizabeth City University State Vikings, Moorehouse College Maroon Tiger, Prairie View Agricultural & Mechanical University Panthers, South Carolina State University, Southern State University Jaguars, Virginia State University Trojans, and Winston-Salem State University Rams.
There is also a feature of female mascots in the second series. Lady Venom Florida A&M, Female Panther Prairie View A&M, Aggietha North Carolina A&T, and Female Bronco Fayetteville State.
The bobbleheads are currently numbered individually to 2,023, and are made available through the National Hall of Fame and Museum website.
“We’re excited to release this long-overdue collection of HBCU bobbleheads,” said Sklar.
Series 2 is out now; however, on the website there are still more school mascots that are not yet released until November 2023, but you can pre-order now. Series 1 is already available for purchase.
