Persons of Interest Sought in Veteran’s Death
posted by Kayla Mady | February 13, 2024 | In NewsCumberland County Sheriff’s Office announced that they are looking for three persons of interest in a November shooting death of an Army veteran in Fayetteville.
On the evening of November 27, dispatchers were called to the 3000 block of Smith Road, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, where Jossiel Rodriguez-Perez, 40, was found shot and killed.
In a 911 call, the caller informed dispatchers that he and some other affiliates of the victim were attempting to track down the man’s stolen trailer, which had a GPS in it.
When they arrived at the location the GPS took them to, someone opened fire on them. It was at this time that Rodriguez-Perez was injured and later passed away in the hospital.
Sheriff’s officials are now searching for Dewey Lee Smith, 42, Amber Byrne, 35, and Kevin Lambert Brewington, 34, for questioning regarding Rodriguez-Perez’s death.
According to another news release from the Sheriff’s Office, the stolen trailer was located on December 8. However, this is still an open case.
