PROFILE: Devon “Jiggsaw” Blue, Fayetteville Creative
posted by DorMiya Vance | March 7, 2022 | In Arts and CultureDevon “Jiggsaw” Blue is a Fayetteville Digital Creator and native that has inspired many talented creatives regardless of age.
Blue has a passion for media and production and invests in the local community through his projects, whether he’s looking for the next model or the next musician to spotlight through his photography and videography brand, Another Jiggsaw Piece (Puzzle Me Entertainment).
Blue credits his start in the media industry to influences in the Black community he grew up to know here in Fayetteville.
“I like to say, Biggie influenced me, my stepfather embraced me, my best friend, Kamal Cobrand, pushed me, and Ms. Bernard, my TV broadcast teacher, game me the confidence,” he said.
Though Blue works hard to create and inspire, he planted roots in the music industry as his first way into the entertainment industry.
“When I was younger, Biggie was the first rapper to make me feel like I want to do music,” he said, “I had to be like ten or eleven, my sister has a karaoke machine, and I would rap, talking about stuff that I shouldn’t have at that age.”
Blue’s stepfather noticed his ability to rap at a young age and gave him life advice he now spreads to younger generations.
“[My stepfather] said something to me that stuck with me to this day.” Blue said. “I tell artists this and people in general: Speak your truth, talk about what you do, and it will work out for itself.”
Blue’s family-oriented inspiration opened a door for him to learn new skills while attending Douglas Byrd Middle School. Blue took a TV Broadcasting class in high school, where he met Ms. Patricia Bernard.
“Ms. Bernard gave me confidence in believing in what I was doing,” he said, “She was the reason why I got into the journalism side of media.”
When it comes to films and screenwriting, Blue looked up to Black writers and producers like Donald Glover and Ryan Coogler.
Locally, Blue works with talent from all over the city and beyond. Because he invests in the community, he considers himself a jigsaw puzzle piece when he helps them complete a picture, video, script, or even a song, hence the name ‘Jiggsaw.’ This nickname is also a nod to the SAW franchise.
“When I help people, I feel like I help them complete their picture,” he said, “I just wanna help people get to where they want to be.”
As a father, Blue surrounds himself with family and like-minded creatives to stay motivated in a constantly changing industry. His boys outweigh any accomplishments he has made with his entertainment business.
“The only thing you can ask for is wanting your kids to do better than you did,” he said, “My kids are my biggest accomplishments.”
Though COVID-19 was a factor in the flow of business for Blue, he looks to boost clientele and improve his skills to better the creator community.
“Since COVID, I want to improve my work ethic,” he said, “I don’t want to get as distracted with life. That’s the two things I can improve.”
The future is very bright for Blue and anyone who crosses his path. He advises younger generations to “just be yourself” and “just do it” instead of waiting for others to make an effort in their dreams.
