Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
posted by Brandon Owens | March 27, 2019 | In Arts and Culture, OpinionSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a must see. Whether you are a diehard Spidey fan that has been with the character for years or new to the scene, anyone can keep up and enjoy this film.
I know it’s been a while since it came out, the film was released December 14th in the U.S., but the DVD release was March 19, offering you a new opportunity to see this great film.
The film follows the exploits of Miles Morales, who takes on the mantle as the new Spider-Man. Miles was an average high schooler with a lot on his plate already. His main worries were that he was struggling to live up to his parents’ expectations, as well as transferring to a new school. When he is bitten by a radioactive spider, he notices that he has developed weird abilities, such as the ability to stick to walls. He eventually meets up with Peter Parker, a dimension displaced version of the titular hero, who serves as his mentor to be the new SpiderMan. He also meets several other Spider-Man characters, each with their own personalities and backgrounds from their own dimensions. They team up to stop Wilson Fisk from reactivating his particle accelerator before the machine destroys the world, all the while trying to find a way to return home to their own worlds.
Visually, the animation to this film is stunning. I enjoyed the fact that this was an animated film. It’s a break from the live action films (although in my opinion, the recent films featuring Tom Holland are just as awesome). One thing that make the film exciting was the flashing colors and pop art present throughout. They enhanced scenes appropriately, adding comedy to the goofy parts of the film as well as intensity to fight scenes and jump scares.
One other thing I like about the film is that it doesn’t focus on Peter Parker. He is present in the film, but the main character is Miles. Many people may be happy to see an Afro-Latino American take on the role of the iconic hero. It’s also great to see many other versions of Spider-Man as they provide different personalities, characters, and perspectives on their role as the hero.
As said before, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a film anyone can enjoy. With a variety of characters, you can get different perspectives of the web slinger. With an engaging story, exhilarating action scenes, and interesting characters, throughout the movie, fans of old and new will definitely cheer for their favorite neighborhood Spider-Man.
