What’s Coming to FSU?
posted by Shawnsuki Brooks | February 21, 2020 | In NewsWhat exactly is going on with the newly built building in Bronco Square. Did it stand the chance of becoming another eatery option for the campus and surrounding community?
When sitting down with Mr. Carlton Spellman, vice president of business and finance, and Mr. Donald Pearsall, director of business and auxiliary services at Fayetteville State University, I made sure to ask.
“The newly built building in Bronco Square is still in the works for a restaurant and by the end of the summer will be McAlister’s Deli. It’s currently in its preliminary stages for a full-service restaurant, and its hours will be geared toward the public with a goal to be open prior to Operation Smooth Move 2020,” Mr. Pearsall informed.
The Health and Wellness Center is also soon-to-come and will be adjacent to McAlister’s across the street. Students will be able to use their Bronco card at McAllister and the Health and Wellness Center.
The wellness center is for the students, however the university is currently talking with the city about incorporating a senior citizen area, though nothing is set in stone.
“We are constantly improving to make it better, and [we] want the campus to be a showcase,” said Spellman. “We want to give our students exposure to different brands when thinking about a variety of restaurants for campus life.”
Once these new areas are opened there will be times when there will be deals and promotions to attract students and give them the opportunity to get additional Bronco Bucks added to spend wherever valid on campus.
The City of Fayetteville has only one other McAlister’s on Skibo Road, which is one reason the restaurant was chosen for FSU.
Currently, non-athletic students don’t have any place to exercise and the wellness center will be a great addition for students as well.
