Women’s CIAA Tournament

STATSThis year the Fayetteville State University women’s basketball team brought their best, but they couldn’t quite defeat defending champions Shaw. Shaw has won the championship the last three years, and this is the second time Fayetteville State has been up against the Bears for the final round. With a 73-70 defeat, the victory was narrow and Fayetteville State put up a memorable fight. The crowd at Time Warner Cable Arena was in an uproar, and both teams were happy to see a superb game full of sportsmanship.

What is CIAA?

According to CIAA’s website, “The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) was founded in 1912 as the Colored Intercollegiate Athletic Association and is the oldest African-American athletic conference in the nation. Although the membership has changed since 1912, the CIAA consists of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) spanning the east coast from Pennsylvania to North Carolina.”
