Wreck & Release: Fayetteville’s New Rage Room
posted by Brittany Doss | October 9, 2020 | In Arts and Culture, NewsOn October 3, Wreck & Release had its grand opening. This invigorating experience can be found in the Tucker Building—about two crosswalks (or a brisk jaywalk) away from where the fountain is located on our beloved campus.
“What stands out about a rage room is the fact you’re able to release stress in a safe and non-traditional fashion,” said Ch-Hara Pearson, CEO of NuEra Enterprise LLC.
Inside, customers are greeted by the front desk administrator to confirm their time slot. Next, customers are guided to a table lined with the required gear for their session. After layering up, customers are briefed about the experience.
To pay homage to FSU and the alma maters of the owners, sessions take place in either the Bronco Pride Room, Eagle Pride Room, Aggie Pride Room, or Black Room. Depending on the package, breakables range from bottles, dishes and other small items, to medium and large items such as monitors, TVs, and furniture.
Inspiration for a rage room came from a year filled with stressors, “We say a need for alternative stress relief in Fayetteville. With so much going on in the world financially, emotionally, racially, politically, in the middle of a pandemic, homeschooling, [and] anxiety and depression at all-time high, we wanted to be able to give back. We figured what better way than to have a safe space for people to come to relieve stress,” said Pearson.
Pearson and her business partner Sparkle Bass have deep roots in both the Fayetteville and HBCU community: “We both are military spouses, mothers, [and] business owners that met 2 years ago via Facebook that have a passion for our community,” Pearson said. She added that as customers come to Wreck & Release: “Our hope is that we can continue helping the community thrive through employment, circulating funds right in the heart of the community, reclaiming Murchison Road as an awesome place to do business and help our fellow citizens of the city with relieving stress in their own unique way.”
Personally, this “smash therapy” session is something I have been wanting to do for a while now. In the past, the closest place was in Charlotte. Last month, I checked again and saw that Wreck & Release was coming to town. Immediately, I booked a session. On the day of my session, I grabbed a friend, the necessary gear, my weapon of choice, and started swinging away!
Pearson urges everyone to “Come free your inner beast at Wreck & Release. Open to the public, ages 13 and up.”
