5th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Challenge Day of Service

Dear Friends,

Fayetteville State University’s Office of Civic Engagement & Service Learning, in collaboration with Methodist University and Fayetteville Technical Community College, are sponsoring the 2014 MLK Challenge Day of Service on Monday, January 20,2014. Faculty, staff, and students of each of these institutions invite the residents of Fayetteville and Cumberland County to come out and help serve the community as we celebrate and honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by making this annual Day of Service “a day on, not a day off.” Initiated by Congress in 1994, MLK Day of Service is a nationwide effort to transform the federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. into a day of community service, continuing to elaborate on Dr. King’s teachings that help solve problems. Last year, this collaborative event rallied over 250 people who gave back to our local community through 13 community organizations. Please join our students, faculty, administrators, and staff members on this day and help make a difference in our community. We hope to make an even larger impact in 2014 by mobilizing at least 350 participants on this national day of service.
