Broncos in the Supreme Court
posted by Breasia L. Williams | September 26, 2023 | In NewsThis past June, Cohort 2 of the Judge Ola M. Lewis Pre-Law Scholars were given the opportunity to complete a moot court argument at the North Carolina Supreme Court in Raleigh, North Carolina. The scholars prepped for this accomplishment after completing a month-long mock law school experience under pre-law advisor, attorney Benita Powell. Eight Scholars argued in front of current supreme court justices who had many compliments to give the group. Following this, the group completed a handful of different legal internships where they gained real-life, hands-on experience in the legal field.
The scholars are now prepping to take the law school admissions test in October, along with the next steps in their professional and academic careers.
“This experience has prepared me mentally for the responsibilities I will have as an attorney and the gravity of my career choice. You never really know if you are dedicated to a career unless you get the experience. So, after spending endless nights briefing cases, studying for the LSAT, and reading the federalist papers. I realized that this was for me,” said cohort scholar Kari Simmons.
These scholars are an extension of, and a great representation for Fayetteville State’s pre-law society, an organization who has a lot of plans for the 2023-2024 school year. Forthcoming, the society will be taking a trip to Atlanta, GA for a law school forum, hosting study nights, and a multitude of other events. Follow @faystate.prelaw on Instagram to stay in the know!
