Community Profile: Dr. David E. McCarter Jr.
posted by Shakenna Moore | March 12, 2024 | In Arts and CultureAs a young boy growing up in Fayetteville, David E. McCarter Jr. realized early on that he wanted to help make a difference and impact his community. He didn’t know how, but he let his love for math help to guide him.
Currently, at the young age of 36, he is now a doctor of education, working as an instructor at Fayetteville Technical Community College. He is also the founder of the Christian school Revival Delivery Center Academy and C.E.O. of Enhance Learning. In not knowing what his future has in store for him, he has continued to let his passion serve as his GPS to his next destination.
Throughout his undergraduate studies, McCarter served as a mathematics tutor at Fayetteville State University. This experience ignited a desire to teach. Upon graduation, he served as a mathematics teacher at his alma mater, Douglas Byrd High School. During his time at Douglas Byrd, he obtained his master’s of mathematics. Shortly after, he obtained his master’s of school administration, and served as an Assistant Principal at Lewis Chapel Middle School. It turned out that following his passion, did in fact, help guide him.
His connection to the students, especially the youth, is noted through their love for some of the same music and movies. He’s shown up with his Scooby Doo socks, which made them laugh and started their day on a positive note. His hand puppets that he used to monitor students during testing, eased nerves and helped to decrease the tension.
His commitment to excellence is not only seen in his work but also at home. His school age daughter has been a straight A student throughout her academic years. She has been a part of the Spanish Immersion Program from kindergarten to fifth grade. She is also a Spanish tutor, as well as a peer tutor for mathematics and English language arts. She also participates in National Beta Club, Science Olympiad, Mathcounts, Battle of the Books, and Forensics Team, who recently placed at a competition, sending them to the state-wide competition. She also was elected to student government association (SGA). Additionally, outside of academics, she was and currently is in Pointe Ballet and helps with the food bank at church.
”If it’s up to her she would keep adding activities to an already full plate. Thank God for mothers, because she definitely needs her own chauffeur,” said McCarter.
Although McCarter considers fatherhood to be at the top of his priorities and one of his greatest achievements so far, he holds his role as a leader and educator in high esteem.
“Each one teaches one,” said Dana McCarter, wife of David who is also an educator with a degree in Mathematics. “It’s our job to make sure that whoever shows up and wants an opportunity to learn, gets an opportunity.”
