CORONA-THON: Social Distanced Fun
posted by Brittany Doss | August 28, 2020 | In Arts and Culture, NewsOn Saturday, August 22, the Weekend Activities Committee, better known as WAC, hosted a Corona-thon scavenger hunt for students to safely participate.
Masked students were placed in groups of 4-5 at the starting point stationed in front of the Rudolph Jones Student Center. From here, groups had to use verbal hints that would send them all over campus, stopping at key locations specifically selected for students to familiarize themselves with campus. Places such as the library and police station were among the stops. The first group to successfully visit each checkpoint and return to the starting point received a prize.
In the midst of COVID-19, people have been trying to adjust to this new normal filled with face coverings, maintaining social distancing, and utilizing technology now more than ever.
Aselah Greenwood, WAC president, remarked that with so much going on, students should still be able to “be happy with campus life, have the college experience, and meet people while following CDC guidelines.” Greenwood said events such as this one allows seasoned students to pass the torch to incoming students as they “respect the campus life and have fun.”
Students can look forward to more WAC-hosted events. Their next event will be Late Night Karaoke on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at the SBE Amphitheater from 7-9p.m. Students can either attend physically or virtually. Physical spots will be limited.
