Scamming ‘Landlord’ Has Been Arrested
posted by Kayla Mady | February 26, 2024 | In NewsEdwin Jamall Wilson, 43, the man posing as a landlord and was being investigated in January on five different felony charges, has been taken into custody, according to ABC 11.
Wilson acted as a landlord and scammed people searching for a potential forever home. After a deep investigation that ran between January and February, it became clear to authorities that several renters had signed leases and paid deposits with the expectation of moving into the home around the same time.
Wilson gave many property tours and collected thousands of dollars in deposits. Many of his victims have reported that they were set to move in, but Wilson provided excuses as to why their move-in dates continued to change.
The ABC 11 investigation that was launched led to authorities being able to charge Wilson on multiple accounts of obtaining property under false pretenses.
Wilson had told ABC 11 earlier this month that he would give the reenters their money back, but the refunds never happened.
Fayetteville Police made the arrest on Feb. 20. Wilson is awaiting bond at the Cumberland County Jail.
