Deadly Tennessee Supermarket Rampage Leave Two Dead, Thirteen Injured
posted by DorMiya Vance | September 27, 2021 | In NewsThursday, a third-party vendor for the Collierville, Tennessee Kroger grocery store engaged in a “deadly supermarket rampage,” leaving two dead and thirteen injured.
The supermarket shooter, Uk Thang, 29, passed away due to “an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to ABC 11.
Police were able to identify the only bystander who died in the tragic event as Olivia King. The others shot in the incident were ten Kroger employees and five customers.
According to USA TODAY, a friend of the now-deceased Olivia King described King as “kind, polite, [and] thoughtful.” King was a widow and mother of three.
The shooting, as described by witnesses, at first was thought to be balloon popping, but as reality set in, employees and customers hid in freezers and offices within the Kroger grocery store. Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane called the incident “the most horrific event that’s occurred in Collierville history.”
A day after the shooting, Kroger put out a statement after the events that happened in Collierville: “In the hours since the shooting, we’re learning of truly heroic acts that included associates, customers, and first responders selflessly helping to protect and save others. We will remain forever grateful to the first responders who so bravely responded to protect our associates and customers.”
Locals from the city of Collierville gathered Friday to mourn as well as pray for those hospitalized.
Lane told USA TODAY, “There’s still some people battling, so continue to pray for them as well.”
An investigation is in motion to gauge the exact motive of Thang’s actions.
Lane said, “The gunman acted alone and worked as a third-party vendor for Kroger.”
Officials involved in the case are “getting a clearer picture of what occurred” at the store that Thursday afternoon.
The Collierville Kroger is closed while the investigation is ongoing, but store employees are still receiving pay.
