Drake’s “CERTIFIED LOVER BOY” Debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200
posted by DorMiya Vance | September 20, 2021 | In Arts and CultureCanadian rapper and music history-maker Aubrey Drake Graham, popularly known as Drake, continued his legacy in the hip hop world with his long-awaited release, “Certified Lover Boy”, taking the number 1 spot on the Billboard 200 this past week.
Drake’s sixth studio album, CLB, was released on September 3, taking the music game by storm. In its first week of sales, CLB sold 613,000 units in the U.S., making it the biggest week for an artist since Taylor Swift released Folklore in July 2020, selling 846,000 units.
The sales numbers are impressive for those keen on the music industry, especially in the age of music streaming as the dominant vehicle for music consumption. Billboard has not seen such a significant week for a rap album since Drake released his fifth studio album, “Scorpion”, in 2018.
CLB is a 21-track studio album, spanning some 86-minutes, featuring chart-topping artists like Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, and more.
The album showcases Drake at the peak of his artistry, showing that he has the rap game down to a science. CLB displays the next level of hip hop and what should come next when perfecting the craft of rap.
Drake discusses alcoholism, therapy, and family throughout the near hour and a half-long project.
Drake is no stranger to the number 1 spot. His singles and features are known to hit the top of the charts, even before the release of CLB.
Though he has maintained a grip on the music industry for over a decade, Drake still shakes the world with his use of unique antics, including the release of his cover art for CLB. The cover features a colorful array of pregnant women emojis.
Drake has been at the rap game nonstop, proving that his presence is a true inspiration to the next generation of artists. CLB and its successes have led the way in furthering the heights of fame and fortune for the talented rapper as he continues to dominate not just the music scene, but also the world.
