Fayetteville Nightlife is Changing, And I’m Here for it.
posted by Trey Nemec | February 20, 2024 | In Arts and Culture, NewsFayetteville, I’ve come to learn in my two years living here, is notorious for its lack of nightlife. It seems that no matter how intently you scour Google for a cool spot to hang-out at 9 p.m. on a Friday night, you’re bound to see the ultimate vibe killer: Those tiny yellow words gloating that this business is “Closing Soon.” Loathe.
Luckily, in a sea of 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. businesses, a few new local establishments, namely Haymount Truckstop, are coming to the rescue.
Haymount Truckstop, which opened in late November, holds the title of Fayetteville’s first food truck court, but it is so much more than just a rotating frenzy of different mobile restaurants. The Truckstop boasts a full bar, an arcade with classic ‘80s arcade games (try to beat my pinball score, I dare you), a backyard with fire pits and plenty of places to lounge, and a vibe that would make even the most loyal dive bar patrons crack a smile.
Listen, I don’t consider myself a nightlife connoisseur. In fact, most nights I can be found melted into my couch, take-out food in hand, mindlessly scrolling TikTok for that sweet, sweet dopamine hit. So when my partner and I decided to peel ourselves away from the couch this Valentine’s Day, we knew we’d be looking for a place that was fun, but casual.
Pulling up, we were immediately greeted by a bright pink neon sign with the Truckstop logo, and we followed like moths to a flame. Although parking was a little hard to find, the business conveniently posted parking maps on their Instagram.
There were a variety of different food truck options, which is ideal in my opinion. Everyone can pick what they like, no obligatory ‘where to eat’ argument necessary. After completely devouring our plate of Carne Asada tater tots (true love, right?), and sipping some of the bar’s signature cocktails, we found ourselves poorly answering questions in a heated game of trivia, sponsored by a local small business. Food, drinks, bar games, and live music? How could you go wrong?
Haymount Truckstop really has it all. The atmosphere was exciting and laid-back, the food options were solid, the drinks and service were phenomenal, and the live trivia event was the cherry on top of a perfect night.
Haymount Truckstop, in my opinion, is setting an example for what Fayetteville’s nightlife scene could look like. Many of us just want a place to relax, be social, and not feel like we have to elbow people out of the way for a $20 drink made with warm tequila. Don’t get me wrong, there is a time and place for a wild night out, but the Truckstop makes me feel like I might never need to step into a rowdy bar again.
Hallelujah.
