Fayetteville State University Brings Back the Homecoming Parade in True Bronco Fashion

The parade occurred on October 8 around 10 a.m. The parade started on Hillsborough Street, eventually making its way to FSU on Murchison Road, where it was welcomed by the Bronco community.
The traditional Homecoming parade was cancelled in fall 2020 due to the restrictions due to COVID-19 and also did not occur during the 2021 Homecoming. The COVID-19 restrictions were lifted in the beginning of 2022 fall semester, which was the catalyst of the parade’s triumphant return.
Hundreds of people stemming from Bronco students, alumni, faculty, staff, and families came together on the sidewalks of Murchison Road to watch the parade make its way up the street.
To kick off the parade in the true Bronco way, a bronco trotted up the street to signify that the parade was in full effect, followed by FSU’s Marching Bronco Xpress, which brought joy to the FSU community, including surprise appearances from MBX alumni.
The Bronco’s Cheer Phi Smoov brought the Homecoming spirit out of the community with their energetic cheers igniting a full-scale applause and cheer.
As the parade progressed, FSU’s Chancellor Darrell T. Allison and his family made their appearance in the parade. This marks Allison’s first parade since being installed as the 12th chancellor of FSU in September.
The parade had appearances from prominent figures in Fayetteville including Layfette Ford Motors of Fayetteville, Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin, founding family members of David Bryant, the Fayetteville Fire Department, Fayetteville City Council Candidate Brenda McNair, Cumberland County Commissioner Charles Evans, and WIDU radio station.
FSU’s organizations fascinated the crowed with appearances from Bronco Wellness Center, Mr. and Mrs. Wellness Ambassadors, Bronco-iRadio along with Mr. and Mrs. Bronco-iRadio, Black Millennium Modeling Club with Miss Black Millennium.
The FSU Pan-Hellenic Council also stepped on the Bronco scene followed with Bronco One-Stop, and Mr. and Miss FSU and the royal court.
Other schools and organizations got a chance to shine in the Bronco parade as they put on a show for the Bronco crowd. High schools such as E.E Smith High School and South Durham marching bands gave a showstopping performances. Fayetteville Cheer Academy adored the crowd as they made their way through the parade.
The parade was the stepping-stone for the Homecoming game which occurred at 2 p.m. the following day where the FSU Broncos defeated the St. Augustine University Falcons 54-0.
The return of the Homecoming parade was a significant moment for Bronco Homecoming as people in the FSU community came together to celebrate the traditional Homecoming parade for the culture. The event left smiles on the crowd’s faces and joy in their hearts as they were able to see their loved ones or friends participate in the parade.
