This grant proposal, sponsored by Dr. Juanette Council, Vice Chancellor of FSU Student Affairs, is meant to “benefit students by providing additional resources for career preparation and leadership development,” according to the university release.
“Through the partnership between FedEx and Fayetteville State, we hope to grow opportunities for internships as well as develop career pathways, so that our students can also obtain permanent employment once that graduate from FSU,” Vice Chancellor Dr. Juanette Council said, “This allows us to strengthen their leadership skills and their career development skills, so they’re career ready.”
FSU held a check presentation ceremony and luncheon on February 9 to commemorate this enhancement for FSU students and their collegiate experience.
FedEx Ground’s Managing Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Engagement, Tracee Walls, stated a clear message about the mission of FedEx’s commitment. Walls also attended the luncheon and presented the grant check to FSU and Chancellor Darrell T. Allison.
“FedEx is proud to support the Leadership, Professional Development, & Student Support Program at Fayetteville State University to enhance career and workforce readiness for students, said Walls, “We continue to build longstanding relationships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and this investment demonstrates our commitment to develop clear pathways for future leaders.”
FedEx Student Ambassador and junior accounting major, Brianna Alston, had the opportunity to experience the launch of the FedEx-HBCU Student Ambassador Program and spoke from the student’s perspective of the benefit of the recent commitment to FSU.
“This is giving us an opportunity to have more knowledge of companies such as FedEx to enhance our knowledge to where we want our career paths to go,” Alston said. “I want to be an accountant, so being able to experience and see all of the accountants that are a part of the company, what they do on a daily basis, and the opportunities that they have, gives me a chance to see it and grasp it and understand what I’m gonna be doing.”
