Final Exam Tips

By: Dion Samuel

The end of the semester is quickly approaching as students try to get last minute tutoring, assignments, or even projects in to boost grades. Getting all of the requirements out the way is preparing them for final exams.

Have you ever seen a stress-free college student? Me neither, unless you count the freshmen who mess up the first semester, say “screw it” to the rest, and never attend class again. I’m not talking about that in particular. What I’m trying to say is that stress is a huge part of the college experience, and it’s something we all have to deal with in life. We don’t have to let it get the best of us. This may come as a shock, but stress does not have to take over your life, no matter how many final exams you have. You can still do well on your tests without wanting to rip out your hair for an entire week.

Here are some helpful tips to help you get through exam week:

1. Avoid stressful people.

Stress actually is contagious. During exam week, resist procrastination and find ways to avoid having a study session with your stressed friend, especially if they’re complaining about all the work they have to do. Their stress will only add to yours.

2. Eat healthy foods and exercise.

This seems like a no-brainer, but many people forget. Skip the sugar, which will make you crash, and go for snacks like healthy cereal or fruits and veggies to keep to keep your body awake and alert. Try to find ways to fit some protein in there too, especially if you have long study hours. Also, try to get some form of exercise. Go for a 5 to 10 minute walk to clear your mind of outside interference or even personal issues.

3. Just say NO.

I don’t mean to drugs, although I’m not recommending them or anything. What you need to say no to are the people who want to take up your time. There will probably be a friend who needs to talk to you for hours about their life, we all do, but you need to resist the urge. Tell them you’re busy and trying to get work done, and you’ll call them back at a convenient time. Say no to the distractions and be selfish for a day. You want a good GPA, right?
