FSU Wind Symphony Concert
posted by Nicholas Robinson-Carter | March 4, 2024 | In Arts and CultureOn February 22, Fayetteville State University’s Department of Performing and Fine Arts held their first wind concert of the semester in J.W. Seabrook Auditorium.
The program began with several music projects: “Governor’s Own March” by Alton Adams, “Rephrygeration” by Todd Stalter, “Three Ayres from Gloucester “by Hugh Stuart, “Some treasures are heavy with human tears” by John Makey, “The Sight That Awaits Us” by Kelijah Dunton, and “Bridges” by Katahj Copley.
Each piece of music from each composer has put together music that is filled with harmonies, vibrant energy, unity, diversity, hope, exploration, and culture.
FSU Wind Symphony is under the direction of director of bands Prof. Austin R. Chalmers, assistant director of bands Prof. DeVon M. Pickett, and senior Shawn McNeil.
Composer Mr. Kelijah Dunton was in attendance as our special guest that night. Dunton is a composer from New York that started his musical journey in high school. He studied alto saxophone and was an active performer in NYC’S Metropolitan Music Community. There he was exposed to many genres of music from various communities as well as understanding people from all backgrounds, ages, and walks of life.
Before performing Dunton’s work, senior euphonium player Adrianna Tellez read aloud the story behind “The Sight That Awaits Us.”
The talented band concert was a night to remember with an unforgettable musical experience. Excellent job from our great band program.
Be sure to be on the look for upcoming performances from our fine arts department and get onboard with the MBX (Marching Bronco Xpress).
