Governor Roy Cooper’s Clean Energy Goal
posted by Kayla Mady | October 2, 2023 | In NewsThe governor visited Fayetteville Tech Community College on September 28 to catch sight of clean energy training programs offered by the college.
Gov. Roy Cooper visited in celebration of Clean Energy Week. North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Secretary Elizabeth Biser accompanied him on the tour of an electric vehicle (EV) class and a solar panel demonstration.
Biser said that it is training courses such as these at FTCC that help achieve environmental and climate goals by aiding the state’s transition to clean energy.
Gov. Cooper put a spotlight on the school’s clean energy workforce training programs. Students in FTCC’s clean energy programs work to support the development of EVs and solar panels.
Gov. Cooper said it is society’s moral imperative to aid in fighting climate change and that he wants to make North Carolina more irrepressible.
In October 2022, he signed Exect. Order No. 271, a directive that prepares the state for the move to ZEVs (Zero-Emission Electric Vehicles.) Then, later signed in January of the same year, he signed Exect. Order No. 246, a directive that affirms NC’s commitment to a clean energy economy and directs the following steps to attain net zero greenhouse gas emissions while making economic chances for the public, particularly in underserved communities.
Cooper said North Carolina has set a goal to have 1.25 million EVs on our roads by 2030. He believes we can reach this goal but acknowledges we will need the people and the workforce with the same kinds of clean energy minds to make this happen.
