HOCO Game: Broncos Edge Out The Golden Bulls
posted by Trevor Lloyd | October 23, 2023 | In News, SportsFayetteville State University alumni and students can thoroughly enjoy themselves and the festivities this weekend as our Bronco football took care of business against the Johnson C. Smith University Golden Bulls, winning a defensive battle 14-7.
Some of the defensive stars from the game were Theniias Moss who came away with the lone turnover of the day with an interception. Shi Gaskin also was a force on the left side of the defensive line as he finished with 12 total tackles.
The Broncos defense did its job by shutting out the Bulls offense in the first half. The Broncos jumped out to a 7-0 with two minutes and 54 seconds in the first quarter after sophomore quarterback Caden Davis broke off a 17-yard touchdown run. The second strike from the Broncos came 26 seconds before halftime when Davis found the end zone again on a 21-yard rushing touchdown extending the lead to 14-0.
The Golden Bulls, however, refused to go quietly. In their first drive after halftime, the Bulls marched 80 yards in 11 plays, ending when wide receiver Reggie Bryant caught a ten-yard touchdown pass from Jamere Cherry with 5 minutes and ten seconds left in the 3rd quarter. This was the last score of the game as both defenses didn’t allow a single point for the rest of the game.
For Fayetteville it was an ugly win, but a win. FSU will play Shaw University next week to try and continue their six-game winning streak to seven.
