Oh, Honey!: A Guide To Clear Skin
posted by Kayla Mady | March 12, 2024 | In OpinionFirst, let me tell you that clear skin does not happen overnight.
We all have different skin types and textures. You can have dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, and more. Only some routines and products will work for you.
It is honestly a long process. Results are not quick, and sometimes, figuring out something doesn’t work isn’t going to be instant either. Also, breakouts or bad skin days will happen regardless of the products you use! IT’S NATURAL.
Your routine does not have to be 20 steps—that truly is not a necessity. I have a four-step routine, though I do throw on sunscreen if I am going out for the day. After cleansing, I like using a little toner and a serum. I lightly pat them in and apply a pea-sized amount of moisturizer.
I am a sensitive/dry skin girly. I use Thayer’s Milky Cleanser and Toner, The Ordinary’s hyaluronic acid, and Thayer’s Soak It Up 80-hour moisturizer. I throw on some Beauty of Joseon Sunscreen if I leave the house. This is a slightly newer routine for me. However, my results started within the first week and a half of this new roundup.
Let’s talk about the ways you can improve your skincare!
#1. DO YOUR RESEARCH!
I can’t recommend products for readers to use. You and I may not have the same skin type. If you want to find products for your skin type, take the time to inspect your skin or go to a dermatologist if you can’t tell for yourself. Once you know your skin type, it is much easier to research products that could work for you.
#2. STAY HYDRATED & EAT LESS GREASE.
Okay, I know you hear this often, but how you eat affects your skin. Oily, greasy, and fried foods lead to texture. If you are anything like me, I want to hide away when the texture on my face is noticeable.
#3. GIRL. STOP. TOUCHING. YOUR. FACE.
I know that your skin may start looking fabulous and may feel soft. Please don’t touch it. I can’t stress this enough. The bacteria on your hands do not need to be embedded in your pores. Leave your skin alone.
#4. ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN.
We do not want to look like prunes. I don’t, and I hope you don’t either. Sunscreen can save you from too much sun exposure and deep wrinkles at a young age. Save yourself a few years.
#5. AVOID HOT WATER.
Warm water is excellent for opening the pores, but hot water will dry your skin. Not even slugging will save you, baby. When I used to use hot water, I realized that I would have dry patches around my face and a lot of random flaking. It is not fun and not beneficial; don’t do it.
#6. SLEEP WELL.
I will be honest. I don’t get enough sleep. I am still working on fixing my sleep schedule. THE BAGS. The eye bags are wild. I hate having the deep purple loops under my eyes. Get a healthy amount of sleep and maybe invest in some under-eye patches. They are lifesavers!
I know it can be frustrating. We all can feel self-conscious. However, it requires patience and time.
Remember to figure out your skin type. Working on yourself also leads to clear skin, and lastly, remember that it may not happen overnight. Even if your skin doesn’t make you feel too confident, you will be glowing in time.
The world is just not ready for you.
