September is Suicide Awareness Month
posted by Jordan Chigubu | September 20, 2022 | In OpinionSeptember is Suicide Awareness Month. Suicide awareness is a topic that people may want to talk about but are sometimes afraid. Whether it’s because they think people will treat them differently or they will just simply get ignored.
Suicide is not only bad for you but for your loved ones as well. For the people that think no one will care about them if they die: that’s false. Someone out there cares a lot about you and your well-being, but you must let them in and talk about what’s going on. That is way easier said than done. You should take steps into letting your loved ones know what’s truly going on with you.
The one thing you can’t continue to do is say nothing about it, bottling those emotions you have longer than you should. Doing that is very unhealthy and can lead to you eventually going to the hospital.
We live in a world where there’s a lot of sad people. Many factors and situations can lead to thoughts of suicide, including depression or childhood trauma. According to the World Health Organization, depression is a leading cause of disability worldwide. More women are known to be affected by depression than men, and depression is often under-reported in men.
Whatever the scenario is, it is hard to get your mind from it because of how it made you feel.
I end this by saying if you have suicidal thoughts speak to someone immediately and you are loved no matter what.
