On The Dive: The Experience
posted by Kayla Mady | April 17, 2023 | In OpinionI think as a human it is only natural that we share opinions. They can be sometimes wanted, unwanted, or needed. But opinions are opinions and as a guest on ‘Campus Deep Dive,’ I can tell you, it was almost therapeutic.
On the day of filming, I was welcomed into the studio by the host, Sentell McCoy, and his behind-the-scenes mastermind, Abigail Guzman. Abigail took the time to give me the rundown of how the mics work, what she will be doing behind the scenes, and how we would need to run some tests before we began. Meanwhile, McCoy joked around and made me nervous about the topics we would discuss.
Surprisingly, this made me a lot less nervous when we actually started. I was expecting some really out-of-pocket or tea-spilling questions. I thought he was about to flame me– but, in reality, it made for an easier interview. The topics were minor, nothing too crazy. We spoke about some of the issues I have heard students express about campus and about myself.
This was the most interesting aspect, actually, not necessarily because I was talking about myself, but more in regards to the fact that the episode is quite literally your own. There is a host, but it is almost like he lets you run the conversation. I spoke about who I am, and how I see myself, and even talked about some of the things I enjoy.
Now, that is not to say that you won’t speak about anything serious, the host is very good at detecting deeper topics that you may be passionate about or have knowledge on. By the end of my interview, we had talked about mental health and tips and tricks I use to help pull me out of that dark space my head can put me in.
Overall, it was truly a pleasant experience, and I look forward to rewatching our interview and staying tuned for every other episode that is to be expected.
