WW3 Is Not a Joke
posted by Christian Parker | March 7, 2022 | In OpinionOn February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a dire threat to Western nations on Thursday morning, saying they would face “consequences greater than any you have faced in history” if they become involved in his invasion of Ukraine, according to national news outlets.
This threat raises many questions about what will happen next within the military and regular U.S. citizens.
In this day in age, sometimes people take things they have for granted, or they may even joke about the concept in question, which is the possible scenario of World War III.
Social media has been divided with jokes, memes, and videos circled the internet about WWIII, following the order from President Putin to launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. There was no stone unturned, and memes discussed topics ranging from how Gen-Z is unprepared for their first war (despite the fact that they grew up in a time of war, and some served in Afghanistan) to how stock markets are dancing to Putin’s tunes.
Many would not realize the repercussions if this outcome were to come because Fayetteville State University is so close to a significant military base. Recently, troops from Fort Bragg have deployed to aid in helping Ukrainian forces and protect NATO allies after the invasion of Ukraine.
Many of these jokers lack the decency to take this matter seriously because they do not have parents, kids, and spouses at risk of being deployed or getting deployed. No one remembers the other recent deployments to active war zones that happen at Fort Bragg; they didn’t have to witness children screaming as parents boarded and walked away with duffels with the risk of never coming home.
You would think with us witnessing the videos coming from Ukraine ourselves that we would be fearful of going to war and seeing peers, friends, and families going to war. Why joke about something so serious? Not everything needs to be turned into a meme.
War, in general, is truly unimaginable to me. So many people would be affected by the outcome of war, especially WWIII.
Living life day-to-day may be too simple for most, but you should genuinely look at your life as a luxury and not joke about this.
