Friday, October 11th in the RJSC Dining Hall at 8:00 pm SAM hosted their second annual spoken word event, “The Poetry Slam (part 2): Hop on the Mic”. Their reason for hosting this event was to show that management goes in all aspects. The show included two portions there was the contest as well as open mic for anyone who wanted to share their smooth talents or finger-snapping words. It consisted of 3 portions singing, rapping, and poetry and the contestants could pick which portion they wanted to participate in. The contestants come out and gave their all. From songs of compassion to poems of infatuation, the outcome was great. The poems were very heartfelt giving me the feel of really being in a poetry café.

The judges were Lamair Bryan, Mike Harris and Darius “Greasey” Willis. The winner of the poetry category was Yolanda Barnes, the winner of the singing category was Jerrica Edwards and the winner of the Rap category and overall winner was Michael “Mr. ENT” Staton. The first place winner received a homecoming package that includes a ticket to everything that requires admission. (Talent Show, Concert, Step Show, Dance) Second and Third Place received a ticket for free admission into the homecoming dance.
