SENIOR ART EXHIBITS

Robert Cornell –Writer

The senior art exhibit showcasing artwork made by graduating seniors was held on April 18th at the Rosenthal Art Gallery. While attending the art show and taking a look at the art that was featured, I was fortunate enough to meet some of the artists responsible for the pieces.

Electric GrooveVictor Pedro, one of the artist, has a passion for arcade games, as seen in some of his pieces like ‘Cybernetic Funk’ which featured characters whose appearances resembled musical instruments like bass guitars, drums, and microphones. Victor has always loved to draw, ever since he was a child, but once he was in high school that love for drawing became a passion. “I used to get lost in my own world and draw all day,” said Victor. Victor expressed that his motivation to draw comes from a friend. “My friend, Derek, motivates me to create art. He’s a writer and I’m an artist. We’re looking to collaborate with each other and make something pretty big.”

Next, I spoke to another artist named Jacquelyne Caldwell, a senior who is a big fan of anime, video games, and who has a passion for dragons. Jacquelyne stated that she likes to start out drawing using a pencil and a piece of paper; then she scans the drawing onto her laptop, inks it in Illustrator, and takes the piece to Photoshop for shading and highlighting. Each of Jacquelyne’s featured pieces were drawn to look like something out of anime with dragons, humans, mice, and even cats with wings. A few of the featured pieces are a part of an eleven-paged comic she named, ‘The Chosen,’ a story of a little mouse chosen to defeat a monster attacking a village of mice. “One of my professors inspired me to make this.” Jacquelyne said. The comic can be found on the Deviantart website under Jacquelyne’s username, 92darkdragon.

Sujen Kim was the last artist I had the pleasure of speaking with during the art show. Most of her featured works were flower vases made out of clay. “I sold a few other flower vases I made, so I had to make more for the art show,” Sujen told me. The vases she made were drawn on the backsides of them. One of my favorites was her piece called ‘Woman,” which had a beautiful flower drawn on the back.

Exhibition

The last senior art show for the year will occur in the Rosenthal Art Gallery on Friday, May 2nd from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. I highly recommend art enthusiasts to attend and enjoy the beautiful, unique artwork presented by our own FSU community.
