Spring Break Plans

Spring Break never gets here quick enough. Midterms are upon us, and all students can think about is a whole week away from school, tests complete. That means it’s time to relax and kick back with friends. We all dream of going to the beach, socializing, and even being able to get involved with clubs or organizations without having other commitments, like classes. Although we dream of relaxing and having fun, the majority of us cannot. I surveyed FSU students, intrigued on what their plans for Spring Break might be, but the answers I received were not what I expected.

Of course many students excitedly responded, “BEACH! Parties!” but shockingly, others did not respond enthusiastically. They simply responded with, “nothing” or “working.” When I asked why the students didn’t have plans, they again stated that they couldn’t afford to go anywhere, or they needed the weeks’ worth of pay to get them through the rest of the semester.

College is supposed to be a time of enjoyment; however, many students miss out on exciting events, including Spring Break, due to monetary issues. For those who cannot afford to enjoy this Spring Break, do not fret; here are some alternatives to ensure you still have a great time:

• Link up with somebody else who can’t afford the drive to the beach.

• Have a movie or television show marathon to fill some of those countless hours.

• Volunteer; giving back to the community not only makes a difference, but gives you a sense of accomplishment and looks good on your resume.

• Look within your community for fun upcoming events. You’ll be surprised how many free or affordable options are right in front of you.

No matter what you do for Spring Break, have fun and, most importantly, stay safe!
