‘Tis The Season
posted by Shakenna Moore | November 21, 2023 | In OpinionWe all know that fall is here, and we are preparing for all of the fun holiday events. The holidays are an important part of our lives because it’s the time of year that we get to spend quality time with family and friends. We get to laugh, play, watch ball games and eat good food, or not so good, depending on who’s in the kitchen.
During this time, you get to break up the monotony of doing the same routines over and over again such as wake, eat, work, school, sleep… repeat!
You also get to experience the diversity of different cultures and learn all of the different ways that we are different but actually the same.
In addition, we get geared up for a little retail therapy, whether you do it online or at the shopping mall. Decorating the house for the up-and-coming holiday or just sitting still while you watch your favorite movies or find new ones. We get to make memories that last a lifetime.
We reflect on all the things for which we are grateful, all while understanding that we are blessed and fortunate. We must also remember and be mindful that there are many who are not as fortunate and are suffering while struggling to make it through. Because of this, we have to reach down within ourselves and find the compassion and empathy necessary to show kindness and lend a helping hand to others. A little grace and mercy toward others are what it’s about.
With that being said, let’s have a happy and fun time with the ones we love and who love us back. Let’s cherish the time that we have together and remember the old saying: “Yesterday is history, tomorrow’s a mystery and today is a gift: that’s why they call it the present.”
