Oh Honey: You Will Always Be Summer Body Ready
posted by Kayla Mady | April 16, 2024 | In OpinionWe live in a day and age where I don’t understand why we bother to shame people for their bodies. If someone has a little extra meat on their bones, why does it bother you? Or if maybe they have a little less, how does it affect you?
The simple answer is it doesn’t.
Whether it is just comments on social media or made by strangers on the street or people around you, remember that if YOU feel comfortable in your own skin, flaunt it. Who cares?
There is this weird demand every summer for people to get their “summer bodies” ready. But what does that even mean? ‘Cause when you think of that phrase, I know we have the same images in our heads—toned, slim, and built bodies in the smallest, thinnest bikinis known to man.
Why does that have to be the only definition of a “summer body.”
This entire week, I was stuck in my head about going on vacation this summer, and for some reason, the thought of not being in shape for the season put me in an odd headspace.
Usually, I am confident with myself. I will always remind myself about being blessed with my proportions and being happy with my appearance. But the sad truth is that the smallest things can throw off that confidence.
For the most part, my confidence is a forced front. However, I am always at my lowest points when I let my lack of confidence lead.
As bizarre as it may sound, I have picked up this new habit of constantly pushing myself to be uncomfortable. You may be wondering what I mean.
I am a plus-sized beauty and have insecurities that sometimes keep me from trying different styles. I just stopped caring. That’s the solution.
Cropped tops? Low-rise jeans? Tighter clothes? I’m going to wear them. When I know I am eating in my fits, the opinion of others is irrelevant.
Those bikinis, those small tops, those miniskirts or mini dresses, body-fit clothing, all of that. Yeah, I will confidently update my summer fashion, so I have no option but to get used to wearing clothes that make me feel like the most beautiful and bold woman.
I still firmly believe that others should respect your comfort zone, but I did not hesitate to break mine. Maturing is realizing your comfort zone is YOUR biggest excuse. You should always feel as beautiful as you are.
So yeah, prepare YOUR summer bodies and be the brightest, hottest, baddest, most beautiful version of yourself for the upcoming and every season after that.
