2023 Miss Phi Beta Sigma is Back
posted by Nicholas Robinson-Carter | November 21, 2023 | In Arts and CultureOn November 9, Fayetteville State University’s brothers of the Mighty Pi Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. held their annual Miss Phi Beta Sigma Pageant for the 2023 season.
The pageant occurred in the Rudolph Jones Student Center Room 242, and the show started at approximately 7:14 p.m. The theme for the event was “Disney Princess.”
Last year’s Miss Phi Beta Sigma was Cassney Vick, and she was passing the crown down to the next queen.
There were four contestants running for Miss Phi Beta Sigma: Laniyah Kearney, Anna Buckley, Alitzah Mitchell and Kendriah Johnson.
The event began with an opening number introducing all the candidates in their business wear. Kearney dressed in a brown blouse with beige pants, Buckley wore all black with a red top that included a scarf, Mitchell had beige with orange dress shirt, and Johnson wore all beige with a turquoise dress shirt.
The next category was talent, and each of these elegant ladies demonstrated skills that come from singing to poetry, and even a special dance routine—all in the hopes of appealing to the judges. Kearney sang “My Immortal” by Evanescence, Buckley recited a poem called “Troubling the Water,” Mitchell dazzled the crowd with an interpretive dance, and Johnson performed a special monologue, which she wrote: “Letter to a first-generation Bronco.”
The final portion of the pageant was evening gown and interview. Each of these glamorous ladies came up to the stage displaying their personalities and poise to the judges while answering questions such as, “What are the founders…” to “What is the motto and charter date?”
Finally, it was time to announce the winners of the Miss Phi Beta Sigma:
- Miss Blue & White was Anna Buckley.
- Kendriah Johnson won Miss Phi Chapter.
- Laniyah Kearney won Miss 1914
- Your 2023 Miss. Phi Beta Sigma goes to Alitzah Mitchell.
Congratulations to all the ladies who participated in the pageant.
