Local Designer Brings Positivity to Market Day
posted by DorMiya Vance | October 5, 2021 | In Arts and Culture, NewsLocal creative manager and graphic designer Collyn Strother experienced seeing his designs in-store for the first time at Market Day, a pop-up shop event and day party hosted by Privei, a concept clothing store in Cross Creek Mall.
Also the Arts Council’s Creative Manager, Strother, elevated his career by working with local but widely-known brands. Strother’s immense knowledge and skill with graphic design, photography, and creative direction pushed him through the process of joining the team of a popular Fayetteville, NC-inspired concept clothing brand, WiseMind Movement.
WiseMind’s owner and creator, Jose Kercado Jr., started the brand based on a “genuine passion for positivity,” leading him to create clothing as a creative form of representation for himself and the Fayetteville community.
For Strother, presenting his skills to Kercado and WiseMind was the first step to seeing his designs in a storefront for the first time.
“I’ve been working with Jose for the past six or seven years, even though I wasn’t signed to him, so we had been creating a lot” Strother said. “I’ve had pieces with other artists done, and they don’t pay attention to detail like he does. Jose will execute things with full detail, so it means a lot for me to see pieces in stores, especially in Fayetteville because it’s our hometown. It becomes a reality, and I feel accomplished.”
After celebrating this big moment during Market Day, Strother hopes that this accomplishment will bring more inspiration to the creative scene of Fayetteville.
“Seeing the stuff in here, being around these other creative people, I hope it inspires more designs, more collaborations, more efforts. Reaching back and giving back, even with raffles, giveaways, and stuff like that,” Strother said.
To future designers like Strother, he advises them to “keep designing” and “don’t rush things” because “what you feel is the best representation of your art. Fashion is always changing. There’s no rules to fashion, so when it comes to designing, I feel like you could really do your own because it’s pure artistry. Be sure you get the best out of what you put out.”
