posted by Breyonna Hardy | May 2, 2023 | In Arts and Culture, NewsWith the 82nd Miss Fayetteville State University being crowned on April 22; Asia Hammock will join the legendary Miss FSUs as she will be remembered as the 81st Miss Fayetteville State University.
Hammock was crowned Miss Fayetteville State University 2022-2023 at the 30th pageant celebration, for which the theme was Reminisce, celebrating the thirty-year anniversary of the pageant. The crowning solidified her as one of the youngest ever to be Miss FSU.
“It was fun. It had its ups and downs, being the youngest Miss Fayetteville State University at the time, now Iyana being the youngest now,” Hammock stated. “It has its perks but also its negatives, a lot of people did not want me to run. But like I told everyone when I did run, it was just for practice. I was not trying to win. It just so happened by the grace of God.”
Hammock is a Charlotte, North Carolina native majoring in chemistry in her junior year at FSU.
“I am very open to talk, as a student leader. I am very approachable. A lot of people come to me with their problems and tell me anything they need done on campus,” she stated. “As a regular person, I am very friendly. My friends say that I am very friendly and that I am open to talk to anyone and everyone.”
Hammock decided to run again for Miss Fayetteville State University 2023-2024.
She spoke about her inspiration and how she felt about running again: “My sister Queens and Kings inspired me. They all kept asking me if I wanted to run again. They know that I’m the only Queen that is a junior, so they knew that I had another chance to do it. They wanted to know if I was going to, and they kept encouraging me so really their support encouraged me to do it again.”
Hammock continued: “Doing it, I was happy, but towards the end the stress kept building on and building on, and I was happy to pass my crown on.” Hammock highlighted her feeling about the process: “It was like if I won, I won. If I didn’t, I didn’t. So I was happy to pass my crown on.”
The advice that she would like to give to the future Miss FSU is to put your foot down.
“That’s the one thing that I had to learn to do because, being that I am very young, and I used to be very soft-spoken, I didn’t like confrontation,” she said. “Just learn how to put their foot down when stuff isn’t going right or you’re not getting emails back. Just be persistent.”
“It was fun being the 81st [Miss FSU]. I really had a lot of fun. If I could do it again, honestly this past year, I really would, but God has something bigger for me.” she stated her final thoughts.
Asia Hammock, the soft-spoken Queen who believed she could, so she did. She will always be the 81st Miss Fayetteville State University.
