Broncos Wild Out
posted by Je'Lesa Jefferson, Keyona Smith | November 9, 2018 | In Arts and Culture, NewsFor homecoming this year, Student Activities Council presented a day full of comedy starting with the Wild ‘N Out Bronco Edition, with comedic guests Karlous Miller and Darren Brand, which was a free event for students to come and enjoy standup comedy and reenact games from MTV’s improv show Wild ‘N Out.
The program allowed students a chance to compete in games that prompt you to think on your feet the way that they have to on stage with Nick Cannon, and some students did well while others were embarrassed.
“I went up there, but I messed up,” freshmen Marcus Williams said, “I just wanted to be close enough to them to be able to take a picture. … I said something so stupid that I forgot what it was.”
Later that day, there was a comedy show held in the Seabrook Auditorium. Music blared popular songs while most people began to dance creating a ripple effect in the audience, causing the audience to look more like a wave.
Brand opened for his fellow Wild ‘N Out cast member Karlous Miller. His set consisted of a lot of relatable topics from roommate issues to the differences between males and females in certain intimate situations.
No topic was off limits from LGBTQ issues to intimacy with your significant other. The raw uncut performances of the two comedians left everyone in the room with smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes because of the truth in their message. Even the police officers, who were there to protect the event, couldn’t help but smile. One officer even had to step out for a moment due to uncontrollable laughter.
It wasn’t until Brand joined Miller back on stage that the two had to “roast” a student who heckled: “We couldn’t get DC so we got your broke a**!”
The performers then tag-team roasted him for at least five minutes, while he never backed down to the hosts shouting ridiculousness back to fuel the “roast.”
When asked if each comedian enjoyed their time here at FSU, they both agreed that FSU made them feel welcome.
“The students were very receptive, and I recommend that other entertainers come to FSU” said Miller.
Brand showed his gratitude for being booked twice in one day by a university, “My own HBCU didn’t even book me, so ya’ll my HBCU now. That’s love.”
Both comedians offered some advice to FSU students: “Continue to strive and do great things take advantage of your situation and be a part of history. People respect you when they see that you graduated,” said Miller.
“Chase your dreams and don’t wait another day,” said Brand.
They also both hung out to make sure that everyone who wanted a photo received one– or two, or three.
